I can't believe I didn't watch this show when it was on television. It is so awesome, and if Eliza Dushku could be more kick-ass I would be amazed. Of course I decide to watch this right after I finish watching Battlestar Galactica, and who is the main guy on the show....HELO aka Tahmoh Penikett. God, do I love him. I also love how there was like a mini-BSG reunion on this show, Lee, Lampkin, Tigh, and Helo. I got extremely excited when I saw Jamie Bamber on my screen, I have mad love for him.
Anyway if you haven't watched this show I suggest you get started before you read this because there are SERIOUS SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can I just say that the fact that this show was canceled kills me, Joss Whedon has such a vision when it comes to storytelling. I hope he does another show after he finishes the Avengers movie of course, but he has such a mind for TV and its a shame that FOX has continued to screw him over in that department. I would love it if he went to cable, that would probably be a good idea. Well anyway, the brilliance of this show is overwhelming, just the idea of making made-to-order people is something that I wouldn't have thought of. I am glad that he at least got to wrap up storylines because he was aware of the situation that was possibly going to occur unlike Firefly.
Echo is awesome. Eliza Dushku was amazing as she transformed from personality to personality. I mean I get that that is her job but normally its different shows or whatever. She was playing at least two characters each episode. I think this show is some of her best work and I have seen pretty much everything that she has done throughout her career. Echo is so great especially in the second season when it turns out all of her personalities have stayed in her head. The second season shows Echo becoming more than just a Doll she becomes an actual person without Caroline. I love the fact that after everything and what a dominant and strong personality Caroline was Echo turned out to be in charge even with Caroline in her head. She is my favorite character on the show because there is so much development with the character in the short time that we got to spend in this universe.
Let's talk about Paul Ballard. My love for Tahmoh Penikett just continues to grow. I loved him on BSG as Helo, and possibly even more as Paul. I love in the first season how he stood by his belief that the Dollhouse existed even if people thought he was crazy. I really did love him and Mellie until I found out she was a Doll, I teared up when he found out and was so heartbroken. I do love that in order to get her out early he joined the House, plus it got him closer to Caroline/Echo, which I loved because I love these two. They are my OTP of this show and I will probably post something about them later. Let's just say that I was emotionally invested in this couple and my heart broke several times for them.
Victor and Sierra, Priya and Anthony. These two were destiny, no matter how many times their minds were wiped they never forgot what they felt for each other. One of the sweetest and most beautiful romances on television and I guess that they will never be recognized for that besides by the fans. Enver Gjokaj the actor who played Victor was brilliant, his Topher is amazing.
Topher Brink, what an interesting character plus he is super cute. Initially Topher is very scientific when it comes to the Dolls and really sees them as playthings if you will. He is usually very proud of his work when it comes to creating personalities for the Dolls. I loved the development he had in the second season where he showed that he was aware that some things are morally wrong. Especially with him and Priya, he felt guilty when they were going to send her to the guy raped her permanently, because he was the one who brought her to the Dollhouse. He felt bad about taking away Paul's feelings for Echo while he was in his coma. Then him and Bennett (I'll get to the awesomeness that is Summer Glau later) they were so sweet. I mean at first I hated her because she was messing with my girl, Echo but then she grew on me when we saw their story and how Caroline had initially used her. Plus they were about to have about as much of a happy ending as Dollhouse will allow when frakkin' Whiskey shoots her. I cried he was so broken about it. Then in Epitaph Part One and Two, when you saw how all the guilt that he had brought on himself for creating the device that wiped the minds of the entire world was heartbreaking, I was shocked he always seemed slightly together but the stress of it all broke him. I was so upset with what happened in Part Two.
Even though Adele is pretty much a cold and calculating bitch throughout a majority of the episodes. She does care about the Dolls in her house. But it was really in the Epitaph that we saw her character grow, especially when it came to Topher. She grew to love him as a son and cared for him when he was broken. God, i'm getting upset just thinking about her doing that. I believe that her character found redemption in the way that she took care of the people that she was supposed to, her Dolls and the people that she worked with.
Boyd... what can I say. I love his character in the first season and most of the second until we find out his true intentions. His relationship with Echo in the first season was a relationship that I truly loved because I am a sucker for family relationships and how they grow, some of the ones I love are Peter and Walter (Fringe), Lucas and Nathan (OTH), Lee and the Admiral (BSG), let's just say male relationships just do it for me probably because men aren't great with emotions. Anyway the development of this relationship and how he cares for her is sweet.
I just want to talk about the brilliance that is Summer Glau, I loved her on Firefly, then on Dollhouse. I'm watching TSCC right now just to see her.
I can't really publish this until I talk a little bit about Paul and Echo. God, I love them together even though we really didn't get to see that. Just the fact that they were in love, and then Alpha almost killed him when he wiped his mind, him forgetting how he felt about her, her being the only one who remembered. Then the future flirtiness that they had going on and I wish we could have seen more of that era of their relationship during the Apocalypse. The ending ripped my heart out. I plan to go more in depth when I right specifically about them later on.
Let me just say again if you have watched Dollhouse or any other show by Joss Whedon .... What the hell is wrong with you? If you like good storytelling, I suggest you get started on BTVS, Angel, Firefly, and Dollhouse. Any one of these will do, because once you watch you will be hooked on his writing and story telling.
